Urbanite, a stone that transforms the bones of the city into the foundation of tomorrow. I was drawn to this particular stone as I was rock hunting. I have been working with it for a few months now to determine what metaphysical properties are present. I also researched the history of these stones.
This stone is most likely the remnants of a Cream City Brick which was made in Milwaukee. It was a highly porous, heat-resistant brick used in buildings and in industrial sites. They were manufactured in the 19th century by kiln firing until the vein of clay, which contained high levels of Calcium and Magnesium, dried up in the 1920s. Cream City Brick is no longer manufactured meaning each piece is a finite remnant of 19th century history.
These particular pieces were most likely part of a shipment lost in a shipwreck. They were then tumbled across the lake floor for over 100 years. This is why they are small and well-rounded compared to the original brick size and shape. There were two major shipwrecks in the area where these pieces were found.
This sanctuary stone is a powerful grounding tool for anyone looking to transition out of a chaotic high stress environment into a space of quiet natural peace and stability. Urbanite is a stone of transformation and sustainability giving new purpose to old energies. It represents resilience, the smoothing over of hard times, and finding lightness in heavy situations. Urbanite is an excellent talisman for harmony, blending the aggressive masculine energy of fire and structure with the receptive feminine energy of flow and time. If you are looking for stability and adaptability, this is a great stone to work with to find that balance.
